Each January a committee from the American Library Association (ALA) selects the official Newbery Award and Honor books for "the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children published in English in the United States during the preceding year." Our book club will read and suggest books we think deserve this award (based on the Newbery criteria) and then, in January, vote for our pick for the Bayside Mock Newbery award.
i read a really good book by her in 5th grade about liars and leaks, so I'm excited to read this one :) Is the library going to get it?
ReplyDeleteNext Chapter Bookshop has ordered it for us and we should have it in a few days. Amy is first in line!! I'll put you down next.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read it (as I'm sure many people know). It sounds funny! Is it in yet?
ReplyDeleteooo i haven't read the first of this book but i just read the second and it was wonderful :).
ReplyDeleteI just finished this book. It's a short, funny, easy read. I liked it, but it's definitely not a Newberry winner. The themes are: being wanted/loved (kind of), believing without seeing (kind of, again), and helping others/doing what's right (I forgot... but I think this is it). They're summarized in the last two sentences of the book, and not really "deep". Still, it's a funny, light read.
ReplyDeleteI love this author, but most of her books are for younger audiences. I agree with Amy that it's not very deep, but I think that it doesn't need to be, considering what age groups will probably be reading it.
