Al Capone Shines My Shoes by Gennifer Choldenko

Moose Flanagan, who lives on Alcatraz along with his family and the families of the other prison guards, is frightened when he discovers that noted gangster Al Capone, a prisoner there, wants a favor in return for the help that he secretly gave Moose.

  1. This was a great book! I think I liked it even better than the first one. I think it can be read by many different age groups too... Right now, I would probably pick this one for the Newberry award.

  6. I enjoyed this book, but a thought the beginning drag a bit. I thought once the action started it was hard to put down. I have bee to Alcatraz so I could picture some of the scenes really well. It is a fun book to read, but I don't think it will win the Newbery.
